Weekend of magic from castle stars
Tuesday, August 26, 2008, 07:30
The Midsummer Magic weekend was rounded off with performances by official Abba tribute band Bjorn Again and the Bootleg Beatles.
Event organiser Robin Rushton said the extravaganza, held in the grounds of Lincoln Castle, had been a roaring success.
"We have had exceptionally good evenings of music," he said.
Last night's singalong performances followed on from the more mellow tones of Aled Jones on Sunday.
He was accompanied by Hayley Westenra, who sang popular tunes including The Rose, You Raise Me Up and songs from the Phantom of the Opera.
"Everybody brought picnic tables and chairs for an evening of semi-classical and popular music," said Mr Rushton.
"You could have heard a pin drop."
An Echo web reader described the classical concert as "fabulous, beyond words". And she had a special message for event organiser Chris Moreno, managing director of Lincoln's Theatre Royal.
"Mr Moreno, what about a Last Night of the Proms at the castle?" she said.
"Put up a big screen and link us to London and let them see what Lincoln can offer – you lay it on and we will come, I promise."
The long-awaited McFly gig on Saturday evening was a crowd-pleaser.
Straight after the concert the band rushed down to London in time to perform at the Olympic Games handover celebrations.
