STAFF and pupils at a village school are celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

The Government watchdog said Digby Church of England School in Church Street, Digby, was "good" overall.

It was given a "good" rating in effectiveness, the school's capacity for sustained improvement, outcome for individuals and groups of pupils, and an "outstanding" rating for the pupils contribution to the school and wider community.

Headteacher Graham Boyall said: "The staff and governors are delighted with the outcomes.

"The school has been judged as good overall, with virtually all areas described as good and one, the pupils' contribution to the community, as outstanding.

"We feel the report describes the school very well and recognises the caring, Christian ethos demonstrated by all of the staff."

The inspectors said: "In this caring, positive environment the children grow in confidence and self-esteem."

The school's federation with Dunston Primary School was also recognised in the report which stated: "The arrangements for the sharing of a headteacher with a neighbouring school are proving effective."

Mr Boyall added: "We would like to thank the staff who work so hard and deserve praise for their commitment and high standards.

"We would also like to thank parents for their support before and during the inspection.

"We are delighted with the report and we can now build upon it to raise standards even further."

Digby School's previous inspection took place in 2007 and inspectors judged the school as "satisfactory."
