The perfect family home
Countless people dream of designing their ideal home where everything is picture perfect and no member of the family is left wanting. Few however, get to make this dream a reality.
But in the picturesque village of Navenby, in a cottage overlooking the meadows, Claire Beckley and family got to be one of the lucky few.
"We really wanted to find somewhere to settle and we chose Navenby because of the facilities in the village. We also knew we wanted an old building with character, but it was really hard to find one large enough," said Mrs Beckley.
"When we found Meadow View Cottage it was in a terrible state, and it certainly wasn't livable. My father's an architect and so we decided to strip the house back and start again. By taking the house back to brick we were, luckily, able to keep the original character on the outside, but inside it's totally different."
Having created a home that was just right for her family, Mrs Beckley and her family are now relocating, just two years later, due to work. Meaning that this dream home is now on the market.
"We've completed everything to a very high standard because we had planned to stay here," explained Mrs Beckley. "Because I was able to work closely with my father, we had that flexibility and allowance to change things as we went along.
"The cottage is really suited to a family, it's been built for a family," she said. "We've got two young children and everything was designed with them in mind. The kitchen is central to the whole of downstairs, which was completely intentional. The garden too has plenty of room and the Viking Way runs down the side of the house.
The character and quality of everything in the cottage speaks for itself, retrospectively Mrs Beckley said that there is nothing that they would have changed.
"It's a very user friendly family house, there is a lot of in-built furniture which really makes the most out of every bit of space we have here," Mrs Beckley commented. "It's the attention to detail which makes the house special, but for me the best feature is the open-plan kitchen. It allows you to be in control and keep an eye on everything that's going on."
One thing that there is no doubt about is that whoever does move in to Meadow View will be getting extraordinary value for money with a house that was tailor-made to be perfect.
Outside the cottage there is a triple garage which provides additional storage and also holds the potential for an annex. While hidden away behind the beautiful decor, eco-technologies are working away, as Mrs Beckley explains.
"The house is completely heated by an air source heat pump, which is extremely economical. The pump runs the whole water system, so heating the water doesn't cost us anything. There are six solar panels as well which generate approximately £1000 per annum."
In most cases, this not being an exception, a picture really does tell a thousand words but to appreciate the skillful layout and keen eye for detail that has been painstakingly applied here, a viewing is essential.
