“As with previous beacon lightings, was there an intent to form a visible line from London to somewhere, or were they random locations without a coherent plan?
The whole beacon thing passed me by last weekend.”
“I agree with "mynameis" it was a really nice evening if you involved yourself with what was there for you to see. It is a shame that some expected to be watching a big screen whilst propping up the bar, there was also no Elephants or Tigers but they were not advertised either. I also discovered that the random pyrotechnic was infact a man firing a medieval black powder gun. I spoke to this man later in the encampment and his knowledge on medieval weapons was very impressive. I thought the main beacon on the Castle walls looked good enough so all in all well done to the County Council and the Castle at least you put something on for us, after all what else was organised in the City???”
“Lincoln 1982 has it about right. He does exaggerate with his tilly lamp comment, they were more like patio heaters but not like Beacons! Thank goodness the Elizabethans didn't warn of impending invasion with this type of beacon!!!! Why no screen? Why no entertainment apart from a small band of strolling musicians? Why no bar, bar profits could have helped fund the event! Why not a nominal charge for entry to help fund a better event? We went on the first tour which gradually became unmanagable due to a total lack of organisation. You have a beautiful venue and a beautiful city but failed to capitalise on it.”
“I really enjoyed the evening and learnt lots from the people doing the medieval displays, it was an education. I learnt about weaving, weapons and medieval cookery etc. It was nice not having the beer tents and tack, took a picnic and made a family night of it. Can't please everyone I suppose.”

“The event was excellent on the telly. I just popped out and lit my patio heater to get the 'Lincoln Castle' effect.”
