SCHOOLS in Lincolnshire are being invited to enter a competition to win funds to boost their eco-credentials.

The scheme is part of The Co-operative's Green Schools Revolution programme and is the second year it has offered a prize fund of £18,000 to help schools realise their green ambitions, which could be anything from creating a new school garden, to generating their own renewable energy.

To be in with a chance of scooping the cash, schools are asked to showcase what they have done to bring The Co-operative's Green Schools Revolution to life to help improve sustainability in their school, along with plans on how they will use the prize money to make their school greener.

Regional secretary for The Co-operative in the Central and Eastern region, Paul Cranfield, said: "Hundreds of schools in the region have pledged their support for the planet by joining The Co-operative's Green Schools Revolution, which helps inspire the next generation of green pioneers, with free lessons, trips and green activities available to all UK primary and secondary schools.

"Whether a school is taking small steps at the beginning of their green journey, or becoming a beacon of sustainability in their community, this competition aims to celebrate and provide support for some of the great work going on behind the scenes."

This year additional themes have been added to the Green Schools Revolution programme including a focus on Fairtrade and co-operative enterprise.

Schools are invited to showcase their Green Schools Revolution through films, stories and photographs, and the £18,000 prize fund will be divided between primary and secondary schools.

Six primary schools and six secondary schools will receive £1,000 in the regional finals, and one primary school and one secondary school will receive £3,000 each in the overall national final.

There are currently over 5,000 schools signed up The Co-operative's free programme.
