£2.6m to repair potholes in Lincolnshire roads damaged by extreme weather

“Totally agree with previous posters, there's one particular hole in Skelly road and one on Broadgate that have been "repaired" by just putting tarmac in and rolling them flat, and if the repair lasts more than a month then they've done well. Why don't they do a proper job and be done with it ?”

I suspect that as most elected parties don't expect to be in term beyond the next election, they do these false economy repairs to balance their books and satisfy their egos. This way, each successive party can blame the previous occupant for the poor quality work done and the escalating cost of repair, then they can "come good" for us little people by "By digging deep into our reserves, despite tightened economic times, we can now prioritise the winter and drought damaged roads that are causing us most concern".”

“The standard of road repairs in this county is atrocious.
All they usually do is dump some tarmac in the hole and roll it a few times and that is considered to be job done. They don't even seal the edges, so the weather, in very short order, gets under the repair and breaks in up. I have personally witnessed pothole repairs that have last less than 1 month. Not acceptable.
They do the same when they re-surface roads. Instead of doing the job properly, they use the "cost effective" loose chippings surface dressing. This is very much false economy as this surface dressing just does not last anywhere near a reasonable amount time. If you need proof, go and look at Tentercroft street. They have had two goes at re-surfacing this road. The first effort was an abject failure and the contractors were made to redo it. This they did, but now only a few months later it is worn out again. If they had done it properly in the first place using a better quality surface dressing it would have lasted a great deal longer. Admittedly it would have cost more to do, but it would work out a lot cheaper in the long run.”

“If the roads I use regularly are anything to go by, LCC have a surfeit of yellow spray-paint and a dearth of tarmac.”

“they dont even repair potholes right in the first place. all they do is slap in a bit of tarmac, flatten it and go.
they dont clear debris out of the hole, they dont cut the pothole to a tidy shape like rectangle/square depending on how big/wide the pothole is, they dont even seal around the edges of filled in potholes to stop water leaking under the tarmac they just put in.
yes if they did the above the repair would take longer to do but it would also last longer to.”
