A HORNCASTLE community group has overseen a £20,000 makeover to the town's war memorial centre.

The improvements to the centre are in preparation for the new tenants taking over the front section of the building and for the benefit of existing tenants; Treetop Day Care Nursery, Horncastle Chiropractic, Robert Ferguson and his holistic clinic and Allie Phipps' Therapy Clinic.

After receiving full support from Horncastle Town Council's Planning and Development Committee and East Lindsey District Council, work on the building was carried out by local businesses Robert Kisby and Turner's of Horncastle.

Chairman of the war memorial centre councillor Bill Aron said: "The work has included wash lighting to the front of the building, new automatic sliding main entrance doors, improved CCTV, new windows and window sills and a replica of the memorial stone sited at the edge of the walkway – the building is the town's living war memorial."

The building was saved some 13 years ago from demolition by a community group and underwent a £200,000 alteration and refurbishment scheme.

This small group has continued with the expertise of Robert Bell and company as letting agents and has during the most part had 100 per cent occupation of the building.

The centre also features a community room which is hired out for meetings.

Councillor Aron added: "We are looking for new members to help oversee the continued good management.

"We meet every six weeks for a couple of hours so if you would like to learn more about becoming involved contact me on 01507 526951."
