Detailed plans for a mosque on an old dairy site in Lincoln have been submitted to city hall.

Full planning permission is now being sought for the place of worship at the old Boultham Park Dairy.

  1. Mosque

New dawn: An artist's impression of how the new mosque will look. The building would take up 1,019 square metres over two storeys

If approved, the mosque would comprise 1,019 square metres of floor space over two storeys.

It would be made from yellow-coloured brick, to purposely mirror the colour of Lincolnshire limestone used in many civic and public buildings in Lincoln.

Its position off Dixon Street would be arranged around the need in Islam to angle the direction of prayer towards Mecca, which from Lincoln is 120.08 degrees.

The Islamic Association of Lincoln's £500,000-plus project was approved in principle nearly a year ago.

At the same time, a new supermarket on the site was agreed and a housing scheme won outline permission.

Dr Tanweer Ahmed, trustee of the association, said: "We are very pleased that we have got to this new stage after waiting for so long.

"The Muslim community is very excited and happy that we are going to the next stage now of applying for full planning permission.

"We feel a desperate need to have our own purpose-built building as our place of worship, rather than hiring out the Grandstand.

"The building will be accessible to the wider community. We would really like to engage and integrate with other members of the community."

It is anticipated the mosque will open in about two years' time.

The plan includes a small regular praying hall for worship five times a day, which will open into a larger community hall to create one big space for Friday.

There will also be a dedicated prayer room for women and a library and classrooms.

A previous mosque scheme on the corner of Church Drive was rejected three years ago over traffic concerns.

The mosque and the supermarket will be accessed from Dixon Street and the housing from Boultham Park Road.

There will be about 140 car parking spaces on the site.

Jean Flannery, chairman of Boultham Residents' Association, has some questions about the scheme.

"We want to know if the road improvements promised will be carried out before any building work on the site is undertaken," she said

"We would also like to know accurate outside dimensions for the mosque and an assurance that parking will be adequate.

"Overall, I think the mosque looks quite pleasant and I am pleased to see that within the plans there's mention of a community hall being available for use by the local community."

“"Mr Sneer has apparently gone on Holiday"

Fear not, Mr Sneer is where Mr Sneer usually is - watching. Sometimes I watch with interest, but having read all this garbage before when you published it under the name of Drew, I'm afraid this isn't one of those times.

As for that now-dead forum that you're hankering after, why don't you start your own? That way you could spout your Islamophobic and anti-Semetic nonsense to your heart's content. You could also bang on about democracy and freedom of speech whilst simultaneously censoring and/or banning anyone who disagreed with you.

"You only have to look at the nutters in Egypt to know that there is no place in Lincoln for a Mosque."

And by the same token you only have to look at the nutters in the Spanish Inquisition to know that there is no place in Lincoln for a Catholic church, right? I mean, you are at least going to apply your logic consistently, aren't you?”

“Ouch, I'm well and truly skewered there, adychet58.

Actually, no. I apologise for my failings in that I'm not glued to my keyboard day and night, ready to respond instantly to any comments you make. There are two reasons for this:

    1. I have a life, in which I leave my home and interact with other human beings. It helps to keep me grounded in reality, and the immersive nature of my work has helped me to understand the language spoken by people around me, both the words and the nuances of context and inference; and

    2. Your posts are generally rubbish.

For reference, I did not correct your spelling and only very rarely would I. I corrected the spelling of the name of God on a flag carried by a woman on a website to which you provided a link, but only to demonstrate that the photograph had almost certainly been doctored as I would consider the flag an insult to Islam. If you wish to correct me on the Arabic slogan, please feel free.

I questioned your use of the word 'factious'. Thank you for elevating me above the level of an idiot, since I did not realise what was meant.

'Factious' is not a spelling mistake. It is a non-existent word that has elements of both 'factual' and 'fictitious'. Since these words are polar opposites in meaning, I suggest ONLY "an idiot would realise what was meant".

If it helps with your sleep pattern or relaxation techniques, I can assure you that Moslems cannot invade your home through your keyboard if they detect even a momentary pause in the frenzied tapping.”

    “Dear Gnome
Being an open minded person I was not concerned what religious persuasion the site I linked to possessed.
Some very free spirited sites are actually Muslim sites and they don't insist that Islamic countries should be taken over by Christians or any other alternative religious people for that matter.
I have selected another website for you to get the message that the film trailer was deliberately intended to show the true colours of Islam

    http://tinyurl.com/974c73r

How rude of you to point out a minor spelling mistake that even an idiot would realise what was meant.
Being a man does not bless me with the best spelling abilities in the world which why I use spell check. So I will blame spell check and my fading eyesight for the error and not my vocabulary.

“Adychet58 - I'm with FreedomSpeech here. You need help.

Your Saturday night link to the Christian Science Monitor might have been a bit of a stitch-up, possibly without your knowledge. The flag the woman in the photograph is holding bears the wording "God is the prophet of Mohammed", whereas the Islamic belief is the exact opposite. It also has the name of God spelt in two different ways in the top line, one of which is clearly incorrect both in spelling and vowelling.

A Moslem woman would not carry such a flag, unlike the patriotic Brits who happily fly the Union Flag upside down to demonstrate their loyalty to Queen and country. I suspect the photograph to have been doctored by somebody with no understanding of Islam.

In the same post, you refer to the director of the film as "factious". Given your tenuous grasp of any recognised language, I won't press that point.

I look forward to the first Friday Prayers in Boultham.”
