'£9m Tritton Road stadium is ideal way to secure future of Lincoln City'
A £9 million stadium on Tritton Road is the ideal way to secure the future of Lincoln City, says chairman Bob Dorrian.
Days after admitting Sincil Bank was no longer "fit for purpose", Mr Dorrian outlined his vision for a new complex which would be used by the community seven days a week.
He believes the ground should be surrounded by hotels, restaurants, shops and banqueting facilities which would revolutionise the club's income streams.
"Essentially our vision is to move to a custom-built ground that gives us so much more potential in bringing money into the club," he told the Echo.
"I would certainly want the club to be based within the city boundaries. The Tritton Road area is not too far out of the town, has good access and is within walking distance from the city centre."
The club moved into Sincil Bank in 1895, but Mr Dorrian says it would cost too much to revamp the nine-acre site, which would be hugely attractive to developers.
"Just to knock the Echo Stand down and replace it with the sort of facilities we are looking at would cost £4.5 million. You may as well move into a new ground for £9 million."
Last week Mr Dorrian announced he had teamed up with fellow board members, Lincolnshire Co-operative and property construction firm, the Lindum Group, to pump £500,000 into the club.
The commercial property agent and senior partner at Lincoln firm Pygott & Crone, Tim Downing, said: "It would be fantastic for the city if they did move."

“What a good idea should have done it 5 years ago, football is a business nowadays and you can't
ignore the fact, multi-functional stadium is the way to go, and why not call it Tritton park, let the building comence”

“The club sold the ground for £225k way back in 1982 and was bought back by Mr Reames for £175k in 2000. The only proviso was a covenant. The covenant was to ensure the land was used for sports purposes. That covenant could be waived and moved to the new site.”

“Hi Helgy
If you says that's correct then I'll take what you say as being right.
But I couldn't argue with you about it as it's such a long time ago now”

“Adrian
If we say we sold the City FC ground for £15,000.000 to Tesco's for example, then we bought a new ground for £10,000.000 we would then have £5,000,000 do do other things with including buying better players. Which would also bring in better gates if we then did well with the better class player. That makes sense to me
But I'm willing to wait for replies telling me that I haven't read the situation correctly.”

“Why build a new stadium for a failing club?? The players are absolutly hopless, what the club needs is some decent talent, move back into the football league and only then should you start talking about a new stadium..........
You could shut the club and build social housing.....”

“Just a passing thought -
We now have a lovely new holding company.
Proposals are appearing about a move to a new ground/complex.
Who will own the complex - club or holding company???”

“"I really do not see the point, Lincolns average attendances over the last few years are as follows..."
No you really don't. The idea driving the stadium is that the attendances alone are not enough to keep the club going. This is why they are looking for a new facility that will generate week long income.
"In truth, I'm sure the plans for a ground move are well under way and that the decision has already been made that we are moving grounds, whether we like it or not"
Is that the truth or your supposition? It is hardly a surprise that the board have looked at options, it would be scandalous if they hadn't because they should be looking at all ways to make the club solvent. That does not mean that "plans for a ground move are well underway"”
