Two professional footballers arrested over sexual assault claim in Lincoln

UPDATE 9am:   The two men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries. 

Two professional footballers are being quizzed by detectives over an alleged sexual assault in Lincoln city centre last night.

The men, aged 29 and 26, were arrested this morning following an allegation from an 18-year-old woman of an attack in the area around Witham Wharf, in Brayford Wharf East.

They are now being questioned by police.   Officers have conducted door to door enquiries at the Witham Wharf apartment block and forensic officers have attended.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police told the Echo: "Enquiries were being made (this morning) regarding an allegation of a sexual assault in the area made by an 18-year-old local woman.

"Two local men were arrested in connection with the incident and they are currently helping police with their enquiries."
