Paganism could join the six world religions taught in county schools
PAGANISM could be taught in Lincolnshire's schools after the issue was raised with the county's religious education advisor.
The question of whether Paganism should join the six world religions on the curriculum was raised with Lincolnshire County Council's body for religious education.

The board, due to meet again today, left the topic open for discussion after the RE advisor said she would look into the issue.
Minutes from a meeting of the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (Sacre) in March said: "The RE advisor reported she had looked into the query about Paganism forming part of the school curriculum.

"It was determined this covered a broad range of beliefs and practices.
"However, there was no direct guidance about whether it should be included, and it was left to the individual schools to make the decision about whether to include it.
"The RE adviser told the committee she would keep her eye on the situation and report back should there be any developments."
The Pagan religion venerates nature and worships many deities, both goddesses and gods.
The cycle of the natural year is seen by most Pagans as a model of spiritual growth and renewal, and as a sequence marked by festivals which offer access to different divinities according to their affinity with different times of year.
In October, Druidry was recognised as a religion in Britain for the first time. The Charity Commission accepted it as a faith and gave it the charitable status afforded to other religious groups.

My first comment is regarding the "cranks in the picture", Have you seen the way the Catholic church dresses in their ceremonial garb, talk about freaks! And second yes this is 2010 not 1410, that is exactly why people are able to have their own religious views and are finally able to feel free to express them with out fearing execution or burning at the stake. I live in the US and this country was founded for religious freedoms but still to this day if you are not Christian or Catholic your views are considered wrong and you are labeled a freak. Tell me how this is right or just.
I was raised Christian but do not believe in an invisible god nor am I sure if I believe in multiple gods or goddesses but I do enjoy learning about different religions and learning their origins, why should we deny our children, our future this luxury. Denying the right to learn anything is wrong and child abuse!”

If someone says that (for example) they believe Ed Miliband is the best man to lead the country then everyone else is perfectly at liberty to say why they think that is utter bunkum. Yet if someone says they believe in an invisible sky pixie who watches your every move and reads your every thought and will send you to place of eternal torment if you're naughty then we're supposed to treat that with the utmost reverence and respect...”

“regardless of your own beliefs or lack of.. it has become necessary to have at least a basic understanding of others cultures and beliefs... we no longer live in homogeneous communities... i wish we could get the American communities to understand this and have elective classes.. but as long as the puritanical christian right and the extreme constitutionalists have control that will never happen.. much to our loss...”
