Winner: David Prescott

Sponsors: The Potter Painting Cafe

"OUR winner is someone who is often heard but rarely seen despite the fact he's to be found performing live in front of lots of people," said Sean Gurney of award sponsor The Pottery Painting Café.

"He can be found at least twice a day most Sundays at St Denys', but you have to know where to look as he'll be hidden away sitting at the organ at the east end of the church.

"Our winner moved to Lincolnshire in 1971, teaching at schools around the county and moved to Sleaford in 2002.

"Spending his career as a teacher he found little time for indulging his musical hobby, until the chance of the post at St Denys' came available.

"Although he still works occasionally as a supply teacher, our winner plays for the regular church services, as well as weddings, funerals and other special services.

"He plays at the Mayor's Civic Services, numerous concerts, and has been responsible for introducing recitals and a church concert programme.

"He is now the organist and director of music at St Denys', looking after the choir as well as the organ – David Prescott, winner of the 2009 Performing Arts Award."

David said: "This has come completely out of the blue but I'm very proud to receive the award,

"I would like to say thank you to the people who nominated me, and to everyone at the church, from the Rev John Patrick, to the choir and congregation, for all their support which is very much appreciated."
