Now's the perfect time to put town on the map
A freelance photographer's first book has put her firmly in the frame for a series of paperbacks which will compare historic town landmarks with 21st century street scenes.
Sally Outram is also confident that her new publishing deal will help her achieve a long-held writing ambition.
Single mum Sally, 48, spent the summer crossing the River Trent on a daily basis – to research and photograph contemporary images for Gainsborough Through Time.
Available at top bookshops including Waterstone's, WH Smith and bookworm, the 96-page publication is the first of seven which will be keeping Sally busy until the end of 2013.

"I started writing the book in April of this year after being asked by Amberley Publishing," said the 48-year-old freelance, who lives in Retford.
"And I was delighted to have the opportunity to write about such an interesting, diverse and historical town as Gainsborough.
"It has a long and eclectic past which played an important role in British history.
"My research took me on an interesting journey through time using archive photographs and modern day images, which I photographed over the months.
"I've got such a long list of Gainsborough people to thank – including the town's library staff, Marcus Hammond at the Bend In The River i n Bridge Street and Stephanie Berezina, who is the personal assistant to the directors of Smiffy's.
"And I've dedicated the book to the memory of my mother, Elizabeth Anne Outram, who died in 2005 and would be very proud of me.
"Now I'm working on Arnold Through Time, which includes the medieval Sherwood Forest – which has to be completed by March next year – and Around Doncaster Through Time, which covers Bawtry and Tickhill, which has a May deadline.
"I'm just waiting to sign contracts for a detailed book about the Mayflower Trail and the Pilgrim Fathers, which will have strong Lincolnshire links.
"And I've also been asked to cover Ilkeston, Alfreton, Worksop and Scunthorpe for the Through Time series."
Ironically, Sally's debut as a published author could also unlock a writing channel first stated more than two decades ago.
"I've now got interest in a series of five children's books I've written called The Wotchits," she said.
"It all started out when I wrote the first for my eldest daughter Rebecca 20 years ago.
"But children's books are the most difficult to get published and I got nowhere until I went back to the first book five years ago and completed the series."
Keen walker Sally has also followed up her 200-mile Wainwright Coast-to-Coast trek from St Bee's in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay on the Yorkshire coast last year.
She's going to be the official photographer for Gainsborough ultra-distance athlete Dale 'Ronnie' Staton's bid to run the course in less than three days next summer.
