It seems the romantic comedy musical is proving more popular with British cinema-goers this summer than the latest action thriller instalment in the adventures of Batman.
Mamma Mia! - starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan - is currently No 2 at the UK box office and has taken £50,261,947 in seven weeks.
The Dark Knight - starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger - is at No 4 and has taken almost £43,498,315 in five weeks.
Mamma Mia! is also No 9 in the Top 10 best selling UK box office movies of all time. It knocked The Full Monty into tenth place, and if it makes over £52,515,550 it will sneak up to steal the eighth spot from Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
The best selling film in the UK ever was epic romance Titanic, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, which took £69,025,646 at the box office.
