Oscar for Tilda? No thanks!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008, 19:29

She may have an Oscar adorning her mantelpiece, but Tilda Swinton has revealed that she actually didn't want it.

Unlike other actors and actresses whose greatest ambition is to win an Academy Award, the British star - who won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Michael Clayton this year - had no desire for the prize.

"A lot of people really want one - really, really want one. And I'm embarrassed because I never did, and I feel a little ashamed that I was given one when I didn't really want one," she admitted to Blackbookmag.com.

"The prize is probably the most famous in the world. For months, at least, people can tell you who won the Oscars, but nobody really knows who wins the Pulitzer Prize or the Nobel Peace Prize. It's shameful but true."

The 47-year-old, who has been acting for over 20 years, admitted that she's not a red carpet 'luvvie' either.

"Red carpet dressing sounds like something that would take you out of your own instincts, but I haven't gotten there yet. I will wear what I want to wear," she revealed.
