Gainsborough Trinity chairman Peter Swann hopes to have decided on a site for the Blues' new stadium within the next month.

Swann wants to build a 4,000-seater purpose-built stadium, which would have wider community use, including 3G pitches, facilities for other sports clubs and the potential for the development of a new club academy which would help nurture young talent.

Swann had initially targeted a 20-acre site on Corringham Road for the Blue Square Bet North club, but has admitted he is looking at alternatives and wants the new facility to be built within the Gainsborough Growth Point, which will see new housing, industrial and retail quarters built in the town.

"There has been a meeting at the moment talking to a local estates company at the moment," said Swann.

"We have got to decide where the new ground is going to go in the next couple of weeks and there are a couple of options.

"We are trying to work with the neighbourhood community scheme and want to be part of the 'growth status' in the town, that is a priority."

Other possible locations include land on the other side of Corringham Road as well as a site on the old Somercotes Road.

Once a location has been decided, the plans will then have to be passed and a general meeting will be held to discuss the new stadium.

"One of our priorities is that the stadium fits into the growth status programme, we don't want to be stuck out on the edge of town on our own, out on a limb," said Swann.

"It's a long, drawn-out process. It will take about 12 months to build the stadium but that is the least of the problems.

"It could be eight months before we actually get to start building, as the plans will have to be passed and a general meeting held.

"But everything is still on track."
