THE anticipated battle of the big guns in the Sills and Betteridge Lincoln Sunday League Division Five saw the honours go to FC Railway Inn Thorpe in a 2-1 success over North Linda Hawks.

Rick Wheatley's first-half effort was cancelled out by the Hawks' Jonjo McGovern after half-time before Andy Anderson scored the winner to virtually seal the title for Thorpe.

Although both sides have a game left, Railway have the easier tie against Metalhead Town, while Lindum Hawks have tougher opposition in the shape of Peter De Wint.

The Division Four title will definitely go to the last match as Mark Newman's four goals for GE Rustons Reserves set up a 6-3 victory over Market Rasen as they go level on points with Welton S&SC Reserves, but a massive 16 goals difference behind.

Victory Athletic played out a 3-3 draw with Newton United in a rehearsal for Sunday's Jock Mitchell Trophy final.

Danny Kent, Aaron Murphy and Rob Smith were on target for Victory with Tom Eaglen (2) and George Pearce responding for Newton.

Victory played Red Lion Dunston the following evening but Red Lion, being much fresher, ran out 3-2 winners, despite goals from Murphy and a rare effort from Tom Wray.

AFC Harpars also had a good midweek win, defeating Heighington 6-1.

Sean Cann scored seven in Division Three leaders Ivy Tavern's 11-0 win over Cherry Willingham on Wednesday.

Also scoring were Sean Wright (2), Michael Lynch and Matt Melynchenko.

That has set Dynamo Varsity the daunting task of having to win by 24 goals against FCW Burtons Reserves on Sunday to take the top spot.

Goals from Jamie Lawrence, Gary Taylor and James Spriggs gave Varsity a 3-1 victory over Harby United.

Champions GE Rustons were brought back to earth by perennial rivals Welton S&SC.

Despite going one up through Martin Goldacre, Rustons succumbed to a frantic five minutes which saw Welton score three times through Sam Allmond and Billy Munro (2).

Simon Mowbray reduced the deficit before half-time before Scott Coupland's second half penalty secured a 4-2 win for Welton.

FSC Victory were 9-0 winners over eight-man Gatehouse with eight different scorers on the night, while FCW Burtons finished the season in style with a 5-0 victory over Anglers FC which included a Glyn Evans hat-trick.

Scothern must wish the season was just starting as they won again, 2-1 against Ruston Sports.

Adam Collins, James Barnett and Paul Newboult gave Bassingham a close 3-2 win over AFC Hykeham in Division One.

Sunday sees the Ron Eaglen Cup Final between Rustons Sports and Hunters Leap, kick off 10.45am, followed by the final of the Jock Mitchell Trophy, kick-off 2.30pm. Both matches are at Sincil Bank.
