Another terrible idea thought up by useless council
AS a Sleaford resident for all of my 45 years, living on the St Giles Avenue estate for 23 years and Parkside for the rest, I feel driven to write to you concerning the town council's latest decision to allow yet another terrible idea to go through against common sense and the public view.
How long can Sleaford residents continue to suffer at the hands of this useless body of people?
We have a ridiculously congested one-way system, we've had the traffic lights debacle, we get metal fabrications that must cost thousands popping up all over town for no real reason and with no public consultation on costs.
For instance, the new bridge over the Slea at New Street that lifts up to allow barges through – somebody please tell me when the locks and the river will be renovated sufficiently to get a barge within five miles of that bridge?
Plus the straw-burning factory that will bring hundreds of lorry loads per week to our door.
We all suffer daily trials of driving on a seriously neglected county road network with many lives lost annually because our county council won't upgrade or dual roads like the A17 and A15, which we all want and desperately need.
Yet our town council seems to think it is fine to build a road that no one wants to make the country's richest supermarket even richer – the decisions they make with our money are unbelievable.
If we need another road in Sleaford it should go from the A15 at Silk Willoughby to Kirkby La Thorpe forming a ring road around the whole town to take traffic away from the town, and there are acres and acres of land for sale on the outskirts of town to build new supermarkets, easily accessible from any bypass route, so why do it in the town centre?
The rec is the only decent public space left in this town and I for one am going to be sorry to see it ruined by this ludicrously incompetent. council.

“Then why don't STC refuse to sell off the land through our recreation ground and tell the people of Sleaford So,
or is this just one more smoke screen”

“Whilst I agree with most of Russ Smith's comments, he is wrong to blame the town council for most of the examples he mentions - why not have a go at NKDC and LCC who are responsible for them. It is unfair to state that the Town Council is useless - many of the things they are responsible for they do well. They were behind the move towards free parking and they are responsible for street cleaning etc as agents of NKDC and you can be sure it would be done a lot less if it were left to NKDC. If the people of Sleaford think the town is still too dirty, ask yourselves who makes it so - the people of Sleaford. There is a limit to how often council staff can walk round picking up the litter they scatter in their wake in spite of plenty of litter bins. There are probably other examples too, but my feeling is stop bashing the Town Council and focus on NKDC - they are behind most of Sleaford's problems, present and future. One thing where Russ is right on the mark is that money is power and that's how Tesco can get away with anything they want to do.”

“Ed, if the town council opposed these two ideas, why are they happening? my statement that this council is useless must therefore be correct, it obviously has no voice and no power, or is not willing to defend the people of sleaford from being railroaded into schemes which clearly are not in the interest of the people, highlighting the fact that money is power and money as always, is driving this latest scandalous decision.”

“Would that be a completely unbaised comment Ed? I would be interested in your comments regarding the bizarre art installations around Sleaford, for example, is it true that a member of the council whose decision it is on public funding is in a relationship with the artist?”
