No tip for Christmas this year
DO any readers remember the song 'If I can help somebody as I go along'?
Something that my generation – 65+ – grew up with, and tell me, does anybody care anymore?
To give an example, last week I inadvertently put out the wrong bin. It should have been black but I put out the green (an unforgivable offence).
The refuse man (or should it be I refuse man) drove up to my house got out of his lorry looked at the green bin then looked at the black bin, which was just 10 yards away.
He got back into his lorry and drove off leaving both bins still not emptied.
Of cause he was not collecting the green bins, I realise that now but with the black bin being so near he must have known it was a mistake.
How long would it have taken him to switch bins and make a kind and helpful gesture?
In my day the dustman, as they were called, would have taken the correct bin and that would have been that, and he would have had my sincere thanks, and a tip at Christmas, that is something that will not be happening this year.
