A SECOND wave of funding available for groups and organisations that help people affected by mental health problems has been launched.

The Mental Illness Prevention Fund is now open for applications to help people who are recovering from mental illness or who are living with mental illness for the first time. Monies can be used to reduce the risk of people, aged from 18 to 64 years, becoming unwell so that they can enjoy a good quality of life.

The fund was first introduced in January by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Lincolnshire County Council. To date £200,000 has been given to some 50 different projects to benefit about 2,500 local people through social support and friendship groups, formal and informal learning, skills and qualifications, supported volunteering and community participation activities.

Paul Jackman, associate director at the Trust, said: "This is the second wave of funding this year to help volunteer groups and other organisations build on and improve the services and support that they already provide. We would encourage new groups to apply and organisations with new projects that could help people with mental health problems throughout Lincolnshire.
